Information literacy is the ability to locate, retrieve, analyze and communicate and/or use information.
Information literacy is an important set of skills, particularly as information and information sources become more and more prevalent. Sometimes, too much information is just that - too much. An information literate person has the skills to recognize the need for information and be able to locate and use it efficiently.
Information literacy skills are used everywhere, not just in school. Being information literate impacts every aspect of your life. It enables you to make informed decisions whether it's about your finances, your job, buying a new car, going to a different doctor or researching a topic for a paper.
The Briarcliffe College Library staff is here to help provide you with the training that will set you on your path to information literacy. We are available for in-class information literacy instruction and one-on-one research assistance.
