| Newseum: Today's Front Pages |
"Offering colorful, enticing daily snapshots of the front pages submitted by over 600 newspapers from 59 countries, this free site is hosted by Newseum, a nonprofit museum of the news media. Front pages are presented as thumbnails with links to readable PDF images and to each newspaper's own Web site. The PDF image is of only the front page and does not provide the entire article when the story is continued on subsequent pages. Since the front pages of slightly more than 50 significant dates have been archived (e.g., 9/11, the Virginia Tech massacre, Pope Benedict's recent visit to the US), this site will not be useful for most historical research or analysis." -- Choice |

| Newser |
"Created by HighBeam Research http://www.highbeam.com/ as an extension of its online information service, Newser is a free, ad-driven news aggregator that presents 9-21 stories (the user's choice) in eye-catching illustrated squares. Each square links to a summary and then to the original newspaper article or other news source. Story selection, according to the Web site, "is based on a proprietary formula that measures the ubiquity of coverage by the top-ranked 100 English-language news sites; the prominence with which those sites feature the stories; and the popularity of a given story with readers; combined with overlooked points of view, angles and scoops uncovered by our editors."" -- Choice |

| Online searchable death indexes & records |
This database appears to cover only the US (see below) and is arranged by state (including the District of Columbia). It aims to include all comprehensive online death-related indexes, such as those for death certificates, funeral homes, cemeteries, probate/wills, and obituaries. Unlike some other genealogical Web sites, it is selective and avoids linking to partial indexes, single surname listings, or projects that allow the public to upload genealogical information, where quality control is often lacking. Some of these pages are long, such as the one for New York, while others (Hawaii, North Dakota) are brief. |
