Activity Based Physics

"Activity-Based Physics (ABP) is a multi-university project to improve the teaching of introductory physics using the results of research in physics education. This URL is an entry to the Web pages managed by the University of Maryland Physics Education Research Group. (The project's home base is at Dickinson College, but the link provided to the Dickinson College pages was not active.) Three curricula that have been made available to physics educators are Workshop Physics, Tools for Scientific Thinking, and RealTime Physics. These curricula use the findings of physics education research, are activity based, and make use of computers for data analysis." -- Choice

Flash Animations for Physics.

“This site provides more than 80 Flash animations from different areas of physics. Topics covered are typical of a one-year course in physics in high school or college. Some of the categories are classical mechanics, optics, electricity and magnetism, quantum mechanics, and sound.” -- Choice

American Nuclear Society

Since 1954, ANS has been a "not-for-profit, international, scientific and educational organization." Approximately 11,000 engineers, scientists, administrators, and educators representing more than 1,600 corporations, educational institutions, and government agencies constitute the membership of this group. The core purpose of the society is to "promote the awareness and understanding of the application of nuclear science and technology."

Hands on CERN

"Hands-on-CERN is an outstanding collection of Web pages on the fundamental particles and processes of physics. CERN, located near Geneva, Switzerland, is the largest particle accelerator in the world. The home page http://hands-on-cern.physto.se/ presents users with an easily navigated menu in the left frame and includes links to other particle accelerator sites throughout the world as well as to Hands-on-CERN." -- Choice

Hurricane Digital Memory Bank

“The purpose of Hurricane Digital Memory Bank is to archive personal reminiscences, documents, and visual objects relating to the impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the Gulf Coast. It is produced and maintained by George Mason University's Center for History and New Media and the University of New Orleans, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History and others. The site's goal is to be comprehensive in hosting narratives from as many different "survivors, first responders, relief workers, family, friends, and anyone with reflections on the hurricanes and their aftermath" as possible.” – Choice

Live from CERN: antimatter

"The Live from CERN: Antimatter site includes illustrated textual material that supports two hour-long Webcasts produced in 2000--"Antimatter: Mirror of the Universe" and "The Antimatter Factory."" -- Choice

Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics.

“The Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics, also known as the Albert Einstein Institute (AEI), was founded in 1995 by the Max Planck Society for the purpose of international research into the fundamental laws of gravitational physics.” – Choice

Physics 2000

"This Web site from the University of Colorado at Boulder has some outstanding Java-based interactive modules for understanding various concepts of modern physics." -- Choice

Physics Hypertextbook

“Glenn Elert, a physics teacher at Midwood High School, part of Brooklyn College, is authoring a Web-based physics textbook. It is a work in progress displaying the disclaimer "under construction." Elert plans seven books with seven chapters per book and seven sections per chapter. The books so far on the site are Mechanics, Matter, Thermal Physics, Waves and Optics, Electricity and Magnetism, and Modern Physics.” – Choice
